As warm weather approaches, I am eagerly anticipating time outside working in the yard and garden, playing with the kids and cooking meals on the grill. Not all meals have to be grilled during the warm months however. Just like any other time of the year, we're busy people who do not have time to wait for food to cook. So, just like any other time of the year, I use my slow cooker to make dinner-time easier.

If you drink wine for its health benefits you should stick with red wines. Red wines are full of antioxidants and are believed to promote optimal heart health when you drink it in moderation, ideally one glass a day. Other wines may have the same benefit in varying degrees, but red wine is definitely the best choice.

Reportedly, according to the ICS, there was a trail hand range cook, who would collect wild chiles and garlic along the cattle trail. Then at night he would cook it up with whatever meat was available and serve it to the rest of the cowhands. The "original" recipe may be tracked back to the early 19th century. This recipe contains only meat, onions, garlic, oregano and salt. And certainly no beans!

There are also various stew recipes across the globe. Probably one of the most known is the easy slow cooker chili. This Mexican delight has been eaten throughout the world, not just in Mexico. The cuisine contains chili peppers, garlic, onions, tomatoes, beans and ground beef. Its reddish gravy resembles the spicy taste of the cuisine and usually paired with tortilla chips. It can also be used as an ingredient in other food like in burgers and spaghetti sauce, therefore spawning a lot of variations based from the dish.

While this concept is simple and easy, I would prefer a different method. First, I don't like the idea of a slow cooked chili "on" all day long. I'm sure that some people would disagree, but an "on" device just worries me. Also, I feel that I'm wasting a lot of energy with a device "on" all day long.

Looking for slow cooker chili that are praiseworthy at your dinner parties? Tired of same old -same old recipes? This cookbook has imaginative recipes, and fresh ingredients added to an 'upscale approach' to a "time-tested and mother-approved" tradition of slow cooked meals. There are even beer or wine suggestions along with each recipe.

Place chicken in slow cooker. Mix remaining ingredients and pour over chicken. Cover slow cooker and cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours. This is perfect with rice or noodles.

Pour the sauce into a large pan and carefully skim fat with a spoon. Put gravy flour into a cup and, stirring constantly, add a little cold water. Pour this mixture into the sauce, stirring chili con carne corn. Cook over medium heat until sauce thickens. Return the short ribs to the sauce, cover, and cook over low heat for five minutes. Serve immediately with ciabatta bread and a green salad. Makes 6 generous servings.
